Course Details

“DIPLOMA IN CULINARY ARTS” is a Vocational Hospitality Qualification developed by Kings Hospitality College keeping in mind the adolescents and youths of a developing country like Nepal where a majority seek short duration of studies and quick employment opportunities.

With this course, students gain moderate theoretical information and extensive practical knowledge of the Hospitality Industry in a short period of time and become industry ready in specific department.

COURSE COMPOSITION

This qualification is delivered and completed in two terms.

Term I: Theoretical and Practical Classes for 6 months of duration in the institution during which learners gain extensive practical and moderate theoretical knowledge to start off a career in Hospitality Industry. Students come across 4 subjects relevant to Hospitality Industry with 2 of the major subjects as practical subjects. 
Term I is equivalent to 25 Credit Hours and 400 Assessment Marks.

Term II: Internship: 6 months internship in a Hotel or Resort to bridge the gap between theoretical input and the real working environment. 3 months exposure to all department of Kitchen and 3 months in department of specialization is recommended. Learners spend 8-10 hours a day while working 6 days a week for 6 strict months, followed with appraisal by department supervisor on performance. 

This period gives learners a great insight of the functioning of the industry and helps decide taking ahead their career in this field.

Term II is equivalent to 40 Credit Hours and 200 Assessment Marks
In total, this is a 65 Credit Hours and 600 Marks Course successfully completed in 12 Months – Period of Time.

Certification Criteria

  1. Attendance – Min 70%
  2. Examination and Assessment
  3. Demonstration of practical skills
  4. Completion of Internship

Examination and Assessments are conducted right after completion of Term I and Term II each. On successful completion and passing of both the terms only, learners are awarded with “Diploma in Culinary Arts (12 Months)”.

This program can be compared with any Internationally Benchmarked Level 3 Diploma in Hospitality Vocational Qualification.

Grading System
The overall achievement of each student will be measured by a final aggregate percentage of all subject and graded as follows:

  • 80% & above: Distinction
  • 60% to 79 % : Merit
  • 50% to 59%  : Pass
  • Below 50%    : Fail = Retake of assessment


Retake Policies
Students who fail an assessment are given chance to retake their assessment for 4 times until 2 years of time since qualification registration.
