DIPLOMA in CULINARY ARTS

“Diploma in Culinary Arts (DCA)” is a Vocational Hospitality Qualification developed by Kings Hospitality College keeping in mind the adolescents and youths of a developing country like Nepal where a majority seek short duration of studies and quick employment opportunities.

This course aims to help learners interested in Culinary Arts to gain moderate theoretical information of Hospitality Industry, extensive practical knowledge of Food & Catering Industry in short period of time and become industry ready in specific cuisine.

A. DCA (4Months + 6Months)
B. DCA (6Months + 6Months)

The course is taught by experienced chefs who are passionate about teaching. You will learn the fundamentals of cooking as well as how to apply them in the kitchen. You will also have the opportunity to work on practical projects, such as preparing a meal for a group of people.

This program can be compared with any internationally benchmarked Level 2 or 3 Diploma Qualifications.

DCA - Course Details

This course is suitable for those who seek to learn and work as well as earn. It also stands as a good choice for those who are

  • highly interested in hospitality sector
  • are not in the condition to pursue or are confused to pursue Hospitality Management for higher studies.
  • studying Hotel Management in Class 11th or 12th

This qualification is delivered and completed in two terms of 4 or 6 months + 6 months period of time.

  • Term I: Theoretical and Practical Classes for 4 or 6 months of duration in the institution during which learners gain extensive practical and moderate theoretical knowledge to start off a career in Hospitality Industry. Students come across 2 major practical subjects relevant to department of specialization & coordination and 4 theoretical subjects.
  • Term II: Internship: 6 months internship in a Hotel or Resort to bridge the gap between theoretical input and the real working environment. This training period also acts as a great opportunity to gain valuable experience and to network with professionals in the culinary industry. 3 months exposure to all department of Kitchen and 3 months in department of specialization is recommended.
    This period gives learners a great insight of the functioning of the industry and helps decide taking ahead their career in this field.

Assessments are conducted right after completion of Term I and Term II each. On successful completion and passing of both the terms only, learners are awarded with Diploma Qualification.

June/July and Dec/Jan

  • Age not less than 16
  • SLC/SEE passed with a min. D grade in each subject (Min. 10 years of education)
  • Must have functional English language proficiency
  • Must be willing to study and work hard

Minimum of 80% attendance required in each subject to appear in final examinations. Students are subject to Not Qualified in case of less than 80% attendance.

Students will also have the opportunity to complete specialization certificates in:

  • Food Safety and Hygiene
  • Fire and Safety (First Aid) Training
  • Sushi Making Skills

After successful completion of this qualification and quality job experience, learners will have a career progression to work in hospitality or food catering industry as Commi Chef’s or F&B Service Supervisors and/ or access to higher education.
